Personally, I do not use the iCloud Photo Library. ICloud Photo Library Help - Apple Support Photos also comes with the option to use the iCloud Photo Library, but be sure that you understand what it is and how it works before signing up: You can then go into Preferences in each app to set up your preferences as to which app will be launched when you connect a camera, which app will be used for your Photo Stream, iCloud Photo Sharing, etc. When you upgrade, your iPhoto Library will be imported to Photos, so at that moment in time, both the iPhoto and the Photos library will be identical. But open the link I provided which gives you the step by step instructions for getting iPhoto upgraded so you can continue to use it on El Cap. I have been doing it since I originally upgraded to Yosemite.
You can run both Photos and iPhoto side by side. THanks for your assistance and if I were to need to know anything else, please direct me accordingly. Can anybody clarify this concern for me? I have read some ideas that after upgrading I will be able to install the iPhoto, if it were in my purchases, but I do not know whether my particular 2012 purchase would install the latest version for sure. I believe it is the 9.4.3 as that is what I have operating now. I checked and I do have the iPhoto application in my purchases in the App Store but it is dated in 2012 as a purchase. MY goal is to be able to run the most recent version of iPhoto before it was dropped after I upgrade to El Capitan Directly from Mountain Lion.
